Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 1/27/2017

One of my co-workers offered me some ginger snap cookies today. I haven’t had ginger snaps in at least 4 years…could be longer, though. While they were decent, they were far from the best in the game. They weren’t Bud’s. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: Bud’s Best Cookies.

How I first came across this moment? My history with Bud’s Best Cookies started back in December 1994. My mother usually bought boxes of Greg’s Cookies from the grocery store as an option for snacks but during a particular visit to our local grocer, shortly before Christmas, she got a bag of ginger snaps made by Bud’s Best Cookies.

What it meant to me then? That first taste was actually pretty good. You could definitely taste the ginger and cinnamon on the cookies. My sister and I completely devoured them in a day or so. And the legend of the ginger snap was pretty much born with me.

What it means to me now? As I noted, before today, I haven’t had ginger snaps in at least 4 years…going back to the Busan trip in January 2013, where the hotel I stayed at had them in abundance. I haven’t really checked for them in my trips to Birmingham over the years. I don’t even know if Bud’s still sells them. What I do know is that those were the best ginger snap cookies on the board and I’ll ride heavy on that opinion.
