Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 4/9/2021

So Facebook reminded me of a moment from around this time in 2017. I made my Las Vegas debut to attend IFMA Facility Fusion at Caesars Palace. While in Sin City, I took the opportunity to get my eyes on one of the greatest sites in the civil engineering world. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: the Hoover Dam.

How I first came across this moment? I made the 40-minute drive from Downtown Las Vegas to Boulder City.

What it meant to me then? In the moment, I got chills just being up close and personal to the dam. I guess the best way to describe it would be the exact feeling of being at the top of Niagara Falls…more specifically, at this particular point. Having spent 10 years of my life as a civil engineer in the Air Force, the Hoover Dam is like one of the great marvels of the industry. Again being so close to it was just an awe-inspiring experience. That’s why I captured the moment with a selfie.

What it means to me now? Some 4 years later, I’m still in awe of that moment. At some point, I’ll get back out to Vegas and when I do, I’ll definitely make that drive again and give the Hoover Dam the proper love.
