Last summer, I wrote about how the Disney+ subscription brought Finding Nemo back into the fold for me. It has also brought some old school cartoons back to me as well. Think Darkwing Duck. Think DuckTales. Think Tale Spin. Think Goof Troop. Think Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers. All were great shows during my childhood. What fascinated me the most was their respective theme songs, which were definitely ahead of their time. The best of the bunch was Chip ‘n Dale and my interest in the series has been refueled as a result. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: the Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers TV series.

How I first came across this moment? I first came across the series on the same day I discovered Darkwing Duck. It was the last of the cartoons in The Disney Afternoon programming block at 4:30pm. Apparently, I was late to the party though since it was already airing in syndication.

What it meant to me then? I liked it. I was a big fan of Chip because he always wore the fedora and just seemed much more serious about the missions at hand. I liked how both main characters liked Gadget but never really let it get in the way of business. More than anything though, I loved that opening theme. If you ask me, only DuckTales is better.

What it means to me now? Taking a peek at this series as a 36-year-old man is actually quite refreshing. Some of the episodes had some fantastic lessons…stuff that was well ahead of its time. It’s unfortunate it only had the 3 seasons.
