Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 4/24/2020

So I purchased Ashton a dump truck since I noticed him continuously playing a garbage truck video on YouTube Kids. I presented it to him and he was terrified of the thing. It could be possible that I erred in getting one that made noise. Maybe that’s too much for him at just over 24 months. Hopefully, he’ll grow to like it though because what I really want to get him hooked on is the absolute best toy a boy of his young age can have. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: the Tonka truck.

How I first came across this moment? My introduction to the Tonka truck happened during my 5th birthday. It was a gift from my father. After I fell sick on my special day and missed the cake and gifts on account of me going to bed to shake off the 24-hour bug, I awakened the next day to see all of the cool stuff people bought me just for turning 5. Amongst the gifts was a Tonka #3901 Mighty Dump truck.

What it meant to me then? Do I really need to explain what it meant to me then? It meant everything. I opened that box up and immediately started playing with it on the floor. You couldn’t tell me anything. I probably played with that truck for weeks on end before I came up for air.

What it means to me now? I really don’t know what happened to that Tonka truck. It probably got thrown out or donated to the Salvation Army like a lot of my toys did. It would be nice to have it though. Imagine if I still had a 1989 version of the #3901 that I could pass on down to Ashton. Seeing his excitement for that dump truck would’ve been nostalgia personified.
