Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 1/26/2018

One of my colleagues was showing off old pictures from his youth at lunch today. One of the pictures was from when he was at a birthday party and he posed while holding on a beverage. I immediately recognized the beverage and let out a chuckle. It was unmistakable that the beverage was a Chucklin’ Cherry Squeezit. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: Squeezit.

How I first came across this moment? I first came across Squeezit in the early 90s. It was amongst the grocery items my mother would purchase for my sister and I on occasion. She usually got us 1 of 3 flavors: the aforementioned Chucklin’ Cherry, Mean Green Puncher, or Smarty Arty Orange.

What it meant to me then? Besides the taste, I enjoyed the fact that you had to literally squeeze the bottle to extract the juice with Squeezit. It was the closest thing to squeezing some kind of beverage from a Gatorade squeeze bottle, something I was fascinated with after seeing them on television.

What it means to me now? I haven’t had a Squeezit since I last attended Parker High School. So we’re talking at least February 2001, at the latest, but I’m thinking more of my freshman year…in 1999. They don’t even make them anymore so obviously, they don’t mean much to me today. But, I will write this much, however: whenever I’m squeezing a bottle to extract the beverage out of it and said beverage squirts into my mouth, I think of the Squeezit.
