Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 12/2/2016

I was channel surfing last night and came across one of my favorite shows from the very beginning of the millennium. It was on TeenNick, a channel I didn’t even know came with my cable subscription. Anyway, that brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: Rocket Power.

How I first came across this moment? I came across the show on my last day as a 15-year-old. I was channel surfing, stopped at Nickelodeon and saw a cartoon about a group of kids fixing skateboards. According to the TV Guide, it was called Rocket Power.

What it meant to me then? Upon initial view, it looked like the kids from Rugrats…only as pre-teens. But I found that they were completely different. They were a quartet of Southern California kids who loved extreme sports. I was intrigued. Even more than that, I became interested in things like ice skating, snowboarding, surfing, and just general skateboarding because of the show. Having lost Doug several months before, Rocket Power emerged as my go-to cartoon.

What it means to me now? Up until last night, I hadn’t seen Rocket Power since at least 2005. It was good to see Otto, Reggie, Squid, and Twister go about their adventures with Raymundo and Tito providing them with guidance. One of these days, I gotta get the series on DVD or Blu-ray.
