Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 4/8/2016

I was in the Publix gathering ingredients for a pizza I’m making tomorrow. Of course, I happened to walk by the potato chip aisle and all of those bags of Golden Flake potato chips were just sitting there, begging to be bought and devoured. Who am I to deny them of that honor? I bought a bag of Sweet Heat Barbecue, came home, and now it’s gone. I was quickly reminded why I don’t buy Golden Flake too often. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: Golden Flake potato chips.

How I first came across this moment? My first recollection of Golden Flake potato chips goes back to the early 1990s, when my father would take the short cut through Theta Avenue and Omega Street to get from 6th Avenue South to 1st Avenue North. I’d always see the Golden Flake plant and the illuminated sign. I always asked for potato chips whenever I saw it and my parents almost always obliged.

What it meant to me then? Back when I was younger version of myself, Golden Flake chips were like a godsend. I was a huge fan of the Dip Style Original and the Dip Style Mesquite Barbecue. I’d eat them up in less than a minute. Between the 25-cent bags at Shop-a-Snak or the 18-bag assorted variety pack, I always found enjoyment in the brand.

What it means to me now? Today, especially with me being back in the South, I still eat Golden Flake potato chips. I’m still loyal to the Dip Style Original and Mesquite Barbecue but I also eat up the Dip Style Cheddar & Sour Cream as well as the Thin & Crispy Sweet Heat Barbecue. As far as I’m concerned, Golden Flake chips are the best on the board.
