Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 3/18/2016

Earlier this afternoon, I enjoyed a lively conversation on Twitter about cheeseburgers in Southern California. While I advocated for Hodad’s in Downtown San Diego, my counterpart made a compelling case for Rounds Premium Burgers out in Pasadena. Don’t get me wrong, Rounds got some sizzle. That bacon cheeseburger with the 1000 island dressing is legit but that Blue Jay Burger down at Hodad’s will change your life. We went back and forth on our positions but we did end up coming to an agreement on the cheeseburgers in “the spot”. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: In-N-Out Burger.

How I first came across this moment? I first came across In-N-Out Burger back in October 2011. I had decided to stay back for a weekend in Los Angeles after arriving from my month-long vacation in Tokyo at the end of the Long Hot Summer of 2011. Out of all of the years I’ve either lived in or visited California, I had never been to In-N-Out. My cousin introduced me and suggested I try out the Double Double. It was a match made in heaven.

What it meant to me then? In the moment, I felt good. My belly appreciated that burger…so much so that during our dine-in at the Canoga Park location, I ordered 2 more such burgers.

What it means to me now? Today, In-N-Out is my top food spot whenever I’m in Los Angeles. It’s a mandatory stop, as far as I’m concerned. The way the cheese oozes off the beef patty and tasty juiciness is quite heavenly.
