Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 1/1/2016

This morning, I watched a film that I didn’t really appreciate when I first saw it. That film happens to be Jetsons: The Movie. It turns out that the film was the end of The Jetsons story after the deaths of two of its main voice actors. I suppose that’s the reason why I wasn’t seeing any new episodes in the early 90s. Watching the film reminded me of a few music tracks I really liked. One of them, in particular, was “With You All The Way”, performed by a then-teenage sensation named Shane Sutton. Little did I know that it wasn’t his song. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: New Edition’s “With You All The Way”.

How I first came across this moment? As far as I can remember, I first came across the track in 1990. My aunt played it when she babysat me at Grandma Sallie’s house. She played it a lot with her being a big-time New Edition fan and all.

What it meant to me then? At that time, it didn’t mean much. It was just more music I was being exposed to at my early age in life.

What it means to me now? Today, it’s one of the oldest tracks in my Windows Media Player library. It still gets rotational play as well as part of the Juan Thomas Presents: Get With Me Volume 6 playlist. Listening to it as a man in my 30s has a different sound and feel than it did when I was 5 and 6 years old.
