Flashback Friday Moment of The Week: 4/17/2015

On my way back from the Florida Panhandle earlier today, I stopped through Montgomery to check on the vacant building I’m responsible for. All was good and I decided to grab something to eat from The Shoppes at Eastchase. I was craving a good burger and since the new Twin Peaks isn’t slated to open for another 2 months, I decided to dine in at the Red Robin. The Red’s Tavern Double is my usual go-to meal…and I typically get it with the bottomless fries and spicy ketchup. And while the food has always been good at any Red Robin I’ve been to, it’s the drink that really makes the experience worthwhile. That brings me to this week’s moment in the Flashback Friday series: the Red Robin Freckled Lemonade.

How I first came across this moment? It was back in March 2011, when I was stationed in Maryland, that I discovered Red Robin. There was one about 3 minutes from where I resided in Waldorf. Upon first look from the outside, I thought it was a Johnny Rockets and I started getting myself for a milkshake. But it wasn’t a Johnny Rockets and their milkshakes weren’t that impressive to me…at least the way they were described. Nevertheless, I decided to eat there and I ordered a Freckled Lemonade. It was the most delicious drink I had that year…and that includes the Fanta Melon Cream soda that I had in Tokyo during my month-long vacation there in the fall.

What it meant to me then? It was a drink. But the fruit and somewhat tangy taste gave it some kick. I liked it. I think I got maybe 3 refills of it that first time.

What it means to me now? Today, I only go to Red Robin when I want a Freckled Lemonade. The burger and bottomless fries are actually secondary to the drink. These days, that $4.29 goes far. I usually get at 5 refills. Today, I got 7…and I was certainly feeling it on the hour drive back to Opelika.
